Business Growth
I call Waingawa the “jewel in our crown”. It is a major industrial area that is very under utilised but we have some major infrastructure issues to overcome to allow it to grow. The first is a reliable water supply. Fortunately the Carterton Council has worked hard to get a loan approved by the government to build a water storage facility to meet the short to medium term requirements of Waingawa business. However this is not enough and we need a better long term water storage facility for not just Carterton, but the entire Wairarapa region.
Waingawa is being seen as an expansion option for Wellington who have run out of industrial land. However, uncertainty about whether the Remutaka Road will be improved is holding back any confidence for large industries to commit.
The Carterton Council needs to work closely with Waingawa businesses to ensure we can provide whatever is necessary to grow the business and employment opportunities that this area can provide.
