Why I'm Standing
Not only Carterton, but the Wairarapa as a whole is lacking a vision for the longer term future. We need to grow our region and make Carterton a great place to live and do business. I believe the council needs to take a lead on this and start thinking - not just in 3 year cycles. If we don’t, we risk stagnation and become a less desirable place to live.
We can do nothing and watch it slowly happen or we can take ownership, look to protect our investment in the region and make a plan! We need leaders who can see this and create a visionary plan with the support of residents.
With my skills and experience, I would be an effective advocate and sales person for Carterton.

Key Aims
Rates
Rates are a wealth tax that are unfairly administered and need to be minimised. We CAN reduce the rates burden.
Transport
Our poor road and rail transport is a major impediment to economic growth. We need both short and long term solutions.
Water
We have a major issue over water storage and resilience. Without a plan to provide reliable water supply, new water dependent businesses will not set up in the Wairarapa and existing ones may move elsewhere.
Amalgamation
Being served by 3 district councils we are not solving issues that are Wairarapa wide. We need a combined unitary council so that we have a more significant voice with government.
Business
We need to attract more people into the region and the best way to do that is by attracting more business into the area. I want Carterton to be the district of choice for people to move to.
Energy Savings
I support the Ratepayer Assistance Scheme which will enable Carterton residents to access very low interest long term loans to improve their properties e.g. insulation and heating improvements and solar panel installations.
